Though highly regulated, the Roof of The World, Tibet, with Everest Luxury Holidays’ Signature Tour and a Private Guide, you explore the place as if nobody else ever has. Our signature lies in the exotic visits of the secluded locations more than just tourist attractions. For sure, there will be places where you will see crowds, but we have extreme plans to remunerate that situation.

The six nights and seven days in Tibet let you experience the major three places: Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse. From Potala Palace to the famous Yamdrok Tso Lake, you will experience the beauty and definitely admire the journey. The stays are planned at luxury properties in every town so that you will feel at home.

The secluded location like Shalu Village in Shigatse is the major choice our Experts have gone with so that you have a different experience.

What To Expect from ELH’s Signature Tibet Tour?

Luxury Tibet Tours are a spiritual journey. Although in 1950, China took over this independent region and the 14th Dalai Lama had to flee, the people still believed in their religion. The first thing you will see in Tibet is the aspiration of the people doing Kora. Whether it is the Jhokhang Temple or Potala Palace, the holy Kora is being performed.

Additionally, you will find the Tibetans doing prostration from their villages to Lhasa through Shigatse, Gyantse, and more. This is what led Everest Luxury’s Expert Team to find this destination as a signature of its own.

This unwavering devotion is a testament to the resilience and spirituality of the Tibetan people. At every corner, you will encounter a deep connection to faith, with prayer flags fluttering in the wind and the sound of chanting filling the air. These moments create a profound atmosphere that stays with you long after the journey.

ELH has designed this luxury Tibet tour to immerse you in the soul of Tibet, blending comfort with cultural authenticity. Each stop offers a glimpse into the unique Tibetan way of life, from the bustling Barkhor Street in Lhasa to the tranquil Yamdrok Lake on the way to Shigatse. Along the route, you’ll witness the stunning landscapes of the Tibetan Plateau, where snow-capped mountains and turquoise lakes create a surreal backdrop.

A highlight of this journey is the inclusion of the secluded village of Shalu and its serene Shalu Monastery. This hidden gem offers a more intimate encounter with Tibetan culture, away from the busier tourist routes. The monastery, dating back to the 11th century, is renowned for its harmonious blend of Tibetan and Chinese architectural styles. Here, you can feel the spiritual energy of centuries-old murals, scriptures, and relics, all preserved in their original form.

We chose to include Shalu because it represents the quieter, untouched side of Tibet, where time seems to stand still. Visiting Shalu allows you to witness Tibetan life in its most authentic and peaceful form. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in a more personal and meditative experience.

Essential Tips

Planning a trip to Tibet is an exciting adventure, and Everest Luxury Holidays (ELH) ensures you’re well-prepared for the journey. Here’s everything you need to know before you go:

Travel Permits and Visas

  • All international travellers require a Tibet Travel Permit to enter the region. ELH arranges this for you in coordination with local authorities.

  • If you’re travelling from mainland China, you’ll need a Chinese visa before applying for the Tibet Travel Permit. For those entering via Nepal, a Group Tourist Visa will be issued in Kathmandu, which ELH will facilitate.

Altitude Preparation

  • Tibet’s high altitude can affect travellers. Lhasa is 3,650 meters (11,975 feet), and some areas on your tour may be higher.

  • Spend the first day resting and hydrating to acclimatize. ELH designs itineraries with built-in acclimatization days to help you adjust.

  • Consider consulting your doctor about altitude sickness medication before your trip.

Best Time to Visit

  • The best months to visit are April to October when the weather is milder, and the skies are clear.

  • Spring and autumn offer the most stunning views of the Tibetan Plateau, while summer is ideal for exploring monasteries and cultural sites. Winter is less crowded, but some high-altitude routes may be closed.

Packing Essentials

  • Layered clothing is essential, as temperatures can vary greatly between day and night.

  • Bring comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, lip balm, and a hat to protect against the strong sun at high altitudes.

  • A reusable water bottle and a small daypack will come in handy for day trips.

Cultural Etiquette

Respect for Tibetan culture and traditions is essential during your visit. The following guidelines will help you navigate the region responsibly:

Photography and Religious Sensitivity

  • Always seek permission before taking photos of locals, monks, or inside monasteries. Some monasteries may charge a small fee for photography, while others may prohibit it entirely.

  • It is strictly prohibited to carry or display photos of religious figures like the Dalai Lama. This is a sensitive subject under the current political climate, and possessing such items could lead to serious consequences, including confiscation or questioning by authorities.

  • Avoid engaging in discussions about Tibetan politics or the Dalai Lama with locals, as it could put them in an uncomfortable or even dangerous position.

Behaviour in Monasteries and Sacred Sites

  • Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, when visiting religious sites.

  • Refrain from touching sacred statues, relics, or murals. Some objects, like prayer wheels, can be spun clockwise as part of the kora ritual, but do not interact with them in any other way unless instructed by a guide.

  • Walk clockwise around monasteries, stupas, and prayer wheels as a sign of respect.

Prohibited Items

  • Importing or distributing any religious or political materials, including books, flags, or pamphlets, is not allowed. These items may be confiscated, and individuals could face questioning.

  • Drones are generally not permitted without prior approval, especially near religious or government sites.

Interactions with Locals

  • Avoid conversations about political or religious matters, as they are sensitive topics for locals.

  • Do not point at people or sacred objects with your finger, as this is considered disrespectful. Use your whole hand instead.

  • Showing affection, such as hugging or kissing in public, is uncommon and might be frowned upon in more traditional areas.

Other Rules to Note

  • Smoking is prohibited inside monasteries and near sacred sites.

  • Donations at monasteries are welcome but not mandatory. Place offerings in designated areas without touching statues or altars.

  • Be mindful of the local time and schedules, especially during religious events or rituals, which might limit access to certain areas.

Connectivity and Currency

  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, but internet access may be restricted for certain websites and apps.

  • The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). ATMs are available in major cities like Lhasa and Shigatse, but it’s wise to carry cash for smaller towns and villages.

Health and Safety

  • Avoid drinking tap water; stick to bottled or boiled water.

  • ELH ensures your safety by arranging private transportation, experienced guides, and 24/7 on-ground assistance.
