The Private Everest Helicopter Tour with a night of stay at Hotel Everest View is one of the most luxurious tours in Nepal a traveler can do. Everest itself is the greatest luxury for anyone, and the visual of it right in front of your room, that’s where you feel the value of this tour.

The 1-night and 2-day tour takes you on a chartered helicopter from Kathmandu to Khumbu. Alongside, you will be visiting the nearby villages like Khumjung and Namche for more experience with the locals within a short time.

Your breakfast and meals served in front of the Everest ranges are something more you can expect on this trip.

What is it like to fly to Everest and stay at Hotel Everest View?

The first answer to the visualization question is thrilling. The thrilling chartered helicopter flight takes 45 mins from Kathmandu to reach the World’s most mysterious airport; the Lukla airport. Stopping there for around 5-10 mins to refuel and your trip to the Everest Himalayas starts. It will take around 45 minutes to 1 hour for the total overfly and landing, and then you will come back to Hotel Everest View for the day’s last landing.

Now the views. Starting right from the beginning, a close view of Thamserku and Kongde shows how close you are going to be to Everest. Flying through the valleys of Khumbu, seeing Namche, Tengboche Monastery, Dingboche Village, and Pheriche Village you head toward the base camp of Everest. Be aware that you do not land at the base camp. You then fly right into the Khumbu Icefall and there stands your life-long dream, the giant Mount Everest right in front of you like Kongde and Thamserku were before.

Holding the happiness, you then fly to Kalapatthar for landing. Being at a high altitude, you will not get more than 5-10 mins in Kalapatthar. It's not as beautiful as you saw before, but Kalapatthar becomes a vantage point for capturing a proper image of Everest from pretty far away.

After that, you can fly directly to Hotel Everest View. First, your guide will check into the hotel rooms and head for breakfast. However, the breakfast is always non-vegetarian at this hotel. Your breakfast will again be in front of Mount Everest, though pretty far.

After a short rest, the guide will then take you for a short village tour nearby; Khumjung or Namche depending on your preference. The next morning you will experience the Sunrise over the Everest Ranges and surroundings. After breakfast your tour ends there and you will be brought back to Kathmandu in the helicopter.

Essential Tips

Landing at Kalapatthar

The landing at Kalapatthar is allowed only in case two passengers will be flying private. Along with you, there will be a guide for sure. However, just for the landing the guide will wait for you at either Pheriche or Hotel Everest View.

This is one of the most confusing cases in fact. So, always be sure that you will be charged more whenever there is a landing at Kalapatthar. And if you want to add-on landing at Everest Base Camp, that hikes the price, too.

Permits required for the Helicopter Tour in Khumbu

There are two permits that travellers are supposed to be paying for. The first one is the Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Permit Fee of $20/person. The second is the Sagarmatha National Park Permit Fee payable at $30/person. With these two permits, any foreigner is allowed to travel in the Khumbu region.

Food availability at Hotel Everest view

Though at a very high altitude, this hotel offers international cuisine except for seafood. Feel free to choose food from the available menu, and you are good to go. However, the breakfast here does not have many choices, as you will just be getting A La Carte, which is particularly non-vegetarian.

Temperature and altitude sickness

The Kalapatthar region's temperatures are almost freezing, and during winter, they are below 0 degrees centigrade. So, always wear warm clothes. Even at the hotel, the nights are chillier than the days. The best option is to keep warm with a fleece jacket, proper trousers, and hiking sneakers.

Regarding altitude sickness, as you will not have to hike above 3,880 meters, there should not be a problem. Prevention is better than cure, so it is suggested that you carry altitude sickness medicine to avoid being sick at higher altitudes.
