It sounds strange to hike with luxury services on the trail but it is true regarding the Everest Base Camp Hike. During the Everest Base Camp Luxury Hike, you can get to stay in the luxury lodges almost throughout the trip. Moreover, you will also start the trek by flying to Lukla on a helicopter which keeps you away from the hassle of waiting in line to catch the regular twin-otter flight.

Not only that but also you will return back to Kathmandu from Gorakshep easily in the helicopter. This way you will save time coming back the same route back to Lukla and catching the flight again.

The time-saving Everest Base Camp Hike in Luxury takes you through the Khumbu region of Nepal to the peak of Kalapatthar to experience the best view of Mt. Everest. Even though time-saving, you will not miss the villages and locals treating you with their way of hospitality. Alongside, you will have the best high-altitude trekking guide and Sherpa (porter) who ensure that you reach the destination safe and sound and return home in one piece.

What is it like to do the trek to EBC in luxury?

When you fly to Lukla you will see a drastic change in the landscape of the country. Lukla itself is a Sherpa Town next to the Tenzing Hilary Airport, so you will be seeing trekkers as well as the locals staring at the take-off and landing of the airplanes which itself is fascinating.

The first day you will stay in the middle of the alpine forest of Phakding in Yeti Moutain Home.

The actual walk starts on the second day as the trails start becoming tough. Second day reaching Namche makes you feel like getting to the town with so many facilities out of nowhere and no transportation, either.

The further days, you will be mostly passing through the more local villages like Tengboche, Debuche, Syomare, Pangboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche. The last living village in the region is Gorakshep, where you have one night of stay so that you cover both Base Camp and Kalapatthar.

To get you an imaginary glimpse, from the Base Camp you will not see the Everest, rather Kalapatthar is the viewpoint. So, get your gear ready for the Everest Base Camp Luxury trek.

The route we follow

The route for the Luxury Everest Base Camp trek follows a similar to the normal route. Here is what it looks like:

  • Day 1: Fly to Lukla and Hike to Phakding
  • Day 2: Trek to Namche Bazaar
  • Day 3: Acclimatize in Namche (short hike to Hotel Everest View)
  • Day 4: Trek to Tyangboche Monastery
  • Day 5: Trek to Dingboche
  • Day 6: Acclimatize in Dingboche (short hike to Nangkartshang Hill)
  • Day 7: Trek to Lobuche
  • Day 8: Trek to Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep and stay overnight in Gorakshep
  • Day 9: Early hike to Kalapatthar and back to Gorakshep; fly to Kathmandu

Where will I stay in Kathmandu and during the hike?

First thing first, you will have the stay in 5-star category hotels like Marriott Kathmandu, Hyatt Regency, or The Dwarika’s depending on your choice. Starting from Phakding to Debuche village in the regular itinerary; you will be staying in the luxury lodges run by Mountain Lodges of Nepal.

In Dingboche, your stay is at Tashi Delek Lodge, which is cozy but not as luxurious as before. From Dingboche onwards, rest assured that you will get cozy lodges with available electric blankets but not any sort of attached bathrooms. The reason for not having an attached bathroom is freezing temperatures making it hard to set up pipelines in every room.

Gorakshep is more basic than Lobuche. But rest assured, with pre-booking you will have the best lodge in the town available.

However, if you choose the second route via Phortse, the lodges are basic in Phortse.

Essential Tips

Permits Required for the Everest Base Camp Region Hike

Primarily, there are two permits that you need to get to the Everest region. They are:

  1. Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality Permit: This permit is issued by the Local Government of Khumbu. It costs NPR 2000/- per person. The permit can be easily obtained in Chaurikharka village next to Lukla. However, nowadays is filled up online named the Trek Card.

  2. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit: As the Everest region falls under the Sagarmatha National Park, there is an entry permit of NPR 2000/- per person. This permit is usually obtained in Monjo, from where the National Park starts.

Food availability during the hike

Everest region is a commercial route to hike through. Since it was one of the oldest routes to start hiking in Nepal, they have many facilities maintained according to tourist standards. Either by airplane, helicopter, porters, or the animals almost all the city food items have reached the region. Thus, during the peak season of Spring and Autumn, you will easily find almost everything regarding the food except for seafood.

You will primarily get a menu to choose the food from. You can consume anything vegetarian. However, we do not recommend consuming non-vegetarian food as the meat is not well processed and can be infected as well.

More to that, from local to western cuisine, the Everest region is full of them. But if you choose to go during the off-season like Summer and Winter, it is hard to find the food. Even, many hotels are closed during this time. So, be aware of which time to choose.

Internet Facilities available during the hike

Internet facilities are available throughout the trekking. However, they are not freely available. You will need to get the paid card. However, we will provide the bought recharge cards wherever needed. You can ask your guide to provide you with an internet connection.

We make sure that you are never out of reach with the outside world. However, even the roaming networks on your phone might not work in many places.

Hike Difficulty Level

The trek is technically challenging in comparison to other hiking expeditions. Starting days are comparatively easier. However, once you start trekking above Namche Bazaar the trail starts challenging you.

One of the major challenges is the altitude here. The camps are not that far but the altitude difference is pretty big. Also, the air is too thin the more you move ahead. Thus, before starting the hike, we recommend you enroll in physical strength and endurance-building training so that you can get ready for what comes ahead.
